5. Complex Rules Don’t Create Fair Outcomes

Chicago IL Motion Blur

Every new rule adds friction. Every exception adds confusion. Over time, complexity becomes a hidden tax.

Large organizations absorb it. Small businesses struggle. Families without lawyers or consultants fall behind, not because they broke the rules, but because they couldn’t decipher them.

Complexity also concentrates power. Those who understand the system, or helped write it, gain an advantage. Those outside it are locked out.

Simplicity isn’t about lowering standards. It’s about making rules understandable, enforceable, and fair.

If a system requires experts just to comply, it’s not serving the public; it’s serving insiders.
