Cook County runs on small businesses.
From local shops to industrial operations that keep our supply chains moving, businesses are what create jobs, support families, and keep our neighborhoods alive. When businesses succeed, communities grow stronger. When they struggle, everyone feels it.
Right now, too many businesses in Cook County are struggling.
The Reality Businesses Are Facing
I talk to business owners across the county, and I hear the same concerns over and over:
- Rising property taxes
- Increasing operational costs
- Delays and confusion with permits and approvals
- Unpredictable regulations
- Difficulty planning for the future
These challenges don’t just affect business owners; they impact employees, customers, and entire neighborhoods.
When a business closes or cuts back, jobs are lost. When costs rise, they are passed on to residents. When growth slows, communities stagnate.
More Regulation Isn’t the Answer
There’s a growing belief in government that more rules and more oversight will fix these problems. In reality, excessive regulation often does the opposite.
Overregulation creates:
- Barriers to starting new businesses
- Delays in expansion and hiring
- Increased compliance costs
- Confusion and inconsistency
Large corporations may be able to absorb these burdens. Small and mid-sized businesses cannot.
When government becomes harder to navigate, fewer people take the risk of starting or growing a business.
Predictability Matters More Than Promises
Business owners don’t expect perfection; they expect consistency and predictability.
They need to know:
- What their costs will be next year
- How long will approvals take
- What rules do they need to follow
Right now, too many businesses feel like they’re operating in uncertainty. That uncertainty slows investment, hiring, and growth.
Cook County should be a place where businesses can plan, invest, and expand with confidence.
A Better Approach for Cook County
We don’t need more obstacles; we need a government that supports growth.
That means:
- Keeping taxes predictable and under control
- Simplifying processes and reducing unnecessary delays
- Making regulations clear, consistent, and limited to what’s truly necessary
- Supporting local businesses, not just large institutions
- Treating business owners as partners, not problems
This Is About More Than Business
This isn’t just about economics, it’s about people.
When businesses thrive:
- Jobs are created
- Families have stability
- Neighborhoods improve
- Opportunities expand
When businesses struggle:
- Jobs disappear
- Prices rise
- Communities decline
Cook County cannot succeed if its businesses are held back.
Time for a New Direction
For too long, the same leadership has relied on higher taxes and more regulation as the solution to every problem.
After 16 years, it’s clear that the approach isn’t working.
We need a new direction, one that understands that a strong business environment leads to a stronger Cook County for everyone.
Let’s Build a County That Works
I’m running for Cook County Board President because I believe we can do better.
We can create a county where:
- Businesses want to open
- Employers want to hire
- Communities want to invest
Because when businesses thrive, we all thrive.
