No Kings: Why the Constitution Still Matters

No Kings Card

The phrase “No Kings” reflects one of the most fundamental ideas behind the founding of the United States.

When the country was formed, Americans rejected the idea that government power should belong to a king or an unchecked authority. Instead, the Constitution created a system where power is limited, divided, and ultimately accountable to the people.

That principle still matters today.

Across the country, debates around immigration policy, enforcement practices, and civil liberties have become increasingly intense. These issues affect real people, families, workers, students, and neighbors living in communities across Cook County.

Regardless of where someone stands on immigration policy, there are principles that should guide how government operates.

First, the rule of law must be respected.
Second, due process must be protected.
And third, government power must remain accountable to the Constitution.

Policies that create fear within communities can undermine trust between residents and institutions. Strong communities depend on transparency, fairness, and respect for individual rights.

The goal should always be to build a system that is both lawful and humane, one that protects public safety while also respecting the dignity of the people affected by it.

Immigration reform ultimately requires action at the national level. However, local leaders still have a responsibility to promote policies that strengthen communities rather than divide them.

The message on this card is simple.

America works best when government power is limited, accountable, and guided by the Constitution.

No kings.

Power to the people.
