VOTE MICHAEL MURPHY FOR COOK COUNTY BOARD PRESIDENT

Reform Delayed Is Trust Denied

The federal consent decree was put in place to strengthen accountability, improve training, and rebuild trust between law enforcement and the community.

That agreement was not optional. It was court-ordered reform.

Government exists to serve the people. That means when reforms are mandated, they must be implemented with urgency and discipline.

The longer reform timelines stretch, the more it raises concern. Delays, whether in policy updates, training implementation, data systems, or reporting, undermine public confidence.

This is not about attacking officers. It is about expecting leadership to execute.

When reform is slow, it signals that systems are not being treated as a priority. And when systems are not prioritized, communities question whether their best interests are truly being protected.

We must push our government to do better.

Completing the consent decree is not about politics. It’s about restoring trust, reducing liability, and strengthening public safety.

Accountability applies to everyone, including the institutions responsible for reform.

Government works best when it works for the people.
