Another $600 Million for Soldier Field?

Soldier Field

The City of Chicago is exploring another major investment of roughly $600 million to renovate Soldier Field.

The problem? Taxpayers are still paying off debt from the 2003 renovation, which cost approximately $600 million and continues to be serviced through public financing mechanisms.

Before committing to another large public investment, residents deserve clear answers:

  • What is the return on investment?

  • Who carries the risk?

  • How does this impact long-term fiscal stability?

Professional sports teams are private businesses. Public participation in stadium financing should be evaluated carefully, transparently, and with measurable outcomes.

Investment is not inherently bad. But fiscal discipline matters.

We cannot ignore long-term obligations while adding new ones.
