Cook County voters deserve a real debate.
As a candidate for Cook County Board President, I have publicly called on Toni Preckwinkle to participate in a debate so voters can compare our records, ideas, and visions for the future. Elections should be about transparency, accountability, and allowing voters to hear directly from the people asking for their vote. So far, those calls have gone unanswered.
Ironically, the only time Toni Preckwinkle and I were scheduled to appear at the same candidate forum was before the primary, when the Chicago Westside Branch NAACP hosted a Cook County Board President Candidate Forum. The invitation included Democratic candidates Toni Preckwinkle and Brendan Riley, as well as me. Neither Preckwinkle nor Riley attended, leaving voters without the opportunity to hear from every candidate.
Debates are not about political parties; they are about accountability. After 16 years in office, the incumbent should be willing to answer questions, defend her record, and explain why she deserves another four years leading Cook County. Voters should have the chance to compare our ideas side by side and decide who offers the stronger vision for the future.
I remain ready to debate at any time, anywhere, before any audience in Cook County. If President Preckwinkle is willing to accept, my campaign will gladly work with hers to arrange a mutually agreeable date, time, and location.
